Adam Randal Young (born July 5, 1986) is an American musician and electronic music producer best known for his electronic music project, Owl City.
Early Years[]
- Young was born in Ottumwa, Iowa, and raised in Owatonna, Minnesota. He graduated Owatonna Senior High School and began working at a Coca-Cola shipping warehouse, where he would compose melodies in his head before recording them in a home studio he created in his parents' basement.[1] He gained a following on the social media website MySpace, furthering his popularity by solidifying his online presence during this time. In 2007, he released his first EP under the moniker Owl City, titled "Of June". In 2008, he released his first full-length album, "Maybe I'm Dreaming".
Owl City[]
- In 2008, he released his first studio album under the name Owl City, titled "Maybe I'm Dreaming". After signing with Universal Republic (now Republic Records) in 2009[2], Young released his second studio album, "Ocean Eyes", and quickly became a commercial success with the lead single from the album, Fireflies. Side Projects[]
Young has had numerous music projects credited to him before he began work on Owl City. Many of these previous side projects were worked on with his friends, and some are only known by name with no released songs to date.
